The Department of Developmental Studies addresses the needs of entering students whose reading, writing or math skills need strengthening. The instructional approach is holistic and student centered. The department provides the following credit courses: English Writing Skills, Introduction to Basic Writing, Basic Writing, Basic Reading, Basic Reading Lab, College Reading, Basic Math, Basic Algebra I, Basic Algebra II, as well as all of the courses in the ESL sequence. The department also houses the non-credit Deaf and Hard of Hearing Cluster. Four Learning Centers support the Developmental Education courses: the English Language Center, the Math Center, the Reading Center and the Writing Center. All of these centers are staffed by professional tutors and provide individualized support for the students enrolled in the developmental courses. Students enrolled in college-level courses are encouraged to visit the Academic Resource and Tutoring Center or the Math Tutoring and Resource Center. |
