Filmmaker Lorre Fritchy to speak at NECC on November 8

Lorre Fritchy, Filmmaker Sunday, November 8, 2:00pm, White Fund Room Millies: Bringing the Past and Present to the Silver Screen 78-82 Amesbury Street (Louise Haffner Fournier Education Center), Lawrence, MA

Come and hear Lorre Fritchy and get a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the inspiring, daunting, amusing, and exhilarating process of trying to make the film Millies a reality. The film follows a modern-day mill owner who is visited by immigrant mill workers from 1912 when they discover "her" future threatens "their" past during the Bread & Roses Strike. Meanwhile, the mill owner contends with a Latino youth sentenced to clean up his vandalism tags of her mill. These occurrences have connections - and consequences - if she doesn't find the key and the courage to save history.

Lorre Fritchy is a writer-director who founded MasterPeace Productions in 1997. A Lawrence-based filmmaker, she has two documentaries in distribution, Sandy 'Spin' Slade: Beyond Basketball and The Gay Marriage Thing, and a narrative film in development, her feature directorial debut Millies. She spent months researching the Bread & Roses Strike to enhance Millies' themes of history, immigrants, preservation, and prejudice both past and present.
