Public Safety
At Northern Essex, Public Safety is a High Priority
The Public Safety Department is a hybrid department consisting of sworn personnel and contract security officers. Along with patrolling the campuses, Public Safety investigates crimes and suspicious activities, handles medical or fire emergencies, and responds to accidents. Public Safety officers are available 24 hours a day, and can be reached at 978-556-3333, or ext. 3333 from any campus phone. In case of an emergency dial 911 immediately, then contact Public Safety.
Emergency Preparedness
Education is an important part of the college’s approach to public safety at Northern Essex. The college offers workshops for faculty, staff, and students on topics such as personal safety and self-defense. NECC also participates in national safety awareness campaigns throughout the year.
Local Partnerships
An integral part of the college’s public safety efforts is its relationships with area police and fire departments. NECC Public Safety officers work with first responders from Haverhill, Lawrence and/or the State Police when incidents require the additional response of these departments.
Additionally, the college hosts the NECC Police and the Essex County Sheriff’s Corrections academies on the Haverhill campus.
Public Safety Escort
Public Safety also offers escorts to and from vehicles, classrooms or offices. To request an escort, you can either call 978-556-3333, ext. 3333 from a campus phone, or text Hello to 978-504-5432, then follow the prompts. Officers will respond as soon as possible, however, high-priority calls may delay their response. If this occurs, remain in a secure location until Public Safety arrives.
