An anecdote is a short story about an event from your life that is interesting or reveals something about yourself.
Whenever possible, look for generalizations that can be made more specific. Tell the story of a day that something happened. Add specific details to make the story more interesting.
Use the journalistic questions to add details to your anecdotes.
The journalistic questions are: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?
Who was there? Give names and perhaps a short description.
What happened? What happened first? Next? Last?
When did it happen? How long ago?
Where did it happen? Add details about the scene: location, time of day, season, weather, etc.
Why did it happen? Why was this moment memorable?
How did it affect you or others? How did you feel? What were your thoughts at the time?
