Program Snapshot
- Specific admission criteria required, in person meeting with Program Coordinator
- HUS101 Intro to Human Services is the only course that can be taken by any student
- All other HUS courses require acceptance in the program
- Program accredited every five years by Mass Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services
- Completion of 35 credits qualifies student to sit for state licensing exam to become a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (Reciprocal Certification available in 47 states)
- Practicum I and II registration must be accompanied by payment for CORI check-CORI valid 1 calendar year
- Recovering students must have one full year in recovery to take core HUS Substance Abuse courses: HUS171, HUS172, HUS173, HUS191, and HUS192.
- Students randomly placed in practicum sites by program faculty-reliable transportation needed
- Majority of courses daytime in Haverhill, limited evenings in Lawrence, some Saturday courses in Haverhill
- HUS103-Community Resources and Client Populations requires adequate transportation due to several off-campus visits to human services agencies as a regular part of the course curriculum

Helpful Hints
- A grade of C- or better is required for all HUS courses, a grade of C or better is required for the many General Education Courses (PSY 101 and ENG 101) that are required in this certificate
- Students whose desire it is to complete the Associate Degree and transfer must earn grades of “C” or better in all courses
- Courses are listed in suggested order to be taken, however Part-Time students may choose to take courses out of order with permission of Program Coordinator
- Several HUS courses include prerequisites or may be taken concurrently as co-requisites
