NECC Rolls Out Mobile Web

Submitted by on December 21, 2011 – 10:26 am

Now that NECC has launched its Mobile Web, faculty, staff, and current and prospective students alike can access and interact with the college using an iPhone, Android, Blackberry or any other Smartphone.

NECC Mobile Web delivers content, services, and features to hand-held devices. It optimizes services such as the campus map, events calendar, campus directory, online newsroom, and more, making this information available anytime from anywhere.

“The time is right for a mobile site launch,” says Hanna Arnold, NECC’s director of online communications. “Over the summer our website saw a 59.2* increase of mobile traffic from the Spring Semester.  And so far this year, we have seen a 393* increase in traffic from mobile devices.  The development of the site was a true labor of love between online communications and MIS. Data doesn’t lie–I knew we needed to move fast.”

What’s next?

This is just the beginning. Improvements will continue to be made to the NECC Mobile Web. New features will be rolled out as soon as they are available. Some of the projects that are on the horizon include an iPhone app with enhanced campus maps and a suite of mobile apps for Self-Service.

Eventually faculty, staff, and students will be able to access Self-Service from a mobile phone, but those features have not been optimized yet.

Arnold is looking for feedback from users and she encourages anyone with a problem or a feature suggestion to contact her at harnold@necc.mass.edu.

“Feedback will help us decide where to focus new developments for the mobile site,” says Arnold. “Over 90* of the feedback thus far asked for integration of Self-Service and Blackboard into a mobile app so we will be looking at those closely for the future.”
