The award is given to a graduating student who has distinguished her or himself through academic achievement and involvement in either campus activities or community service.
McGovern was recognized for her leadership on campus. She is one of the longest serving staff members at the NECC Observer, the college’s award-winning student newspaper. Most recently she served as executive editor and circulation manager.
In addition to her responsibilities at the NECC Observer, she also works at the NECC library.
McGovern graduated with high honors with associate degrees in liberal arts with psychology, writing, and middle/high school teaching options.
In September she will attend UMass Lowell to continue studying psychology. She plans to pursue a career as a child psychologist.
