NECC Professor Yeager is honored as a Young Leader
Northern Essex Community College was well represented when Merrimack Valley Business Magazine honored “40 under 40” on Friday, June 15 at a luncheon held in the Hartleb Technology Center on NECC’s Haverhill Campus.
The award program was launched in 2010 to recognize young people, 40 years or under, who are making a difference in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
NECC President Lane Glenn nominated Marcy Vozzella Yeager, international studies coordinator and associate professor of natural sciences for the award. President Glenn also served as the keynote speaker for the award luncheon.
Yeager, 35 years old, joined the NECC faculty nine years ago and was soon promoted to chair of the Natural Sciences Department, a position which she held for four years, until being named coordinator of International Studies last year.
Much loved by her students, Yeager has had a presence on campus beyond the classroom, providing leadership for the development of new programs, such as the college’s lab science program; for service learning projects; and for increasing campus sustainability.
As an honoree, Yeager was featured in the summer edition of Merrimack Valley Magazine. When asked for her best career advice, here’s how she responded: “My coffee mug says it all for me every day: ‘Do what you love, love what you do.’ Just remember: True love comes with frustration, anger, and stress.”
Yeager also described herself as a “complete geek” who “cannot understand why everyone does not love science.”
As part of the awards luncheon, Yeager and two other awardees received a business makeover, courtesy of the Eagle Tribune. The makeover included clothing, hair styling, and make-up and was given by Aricia Symes-Elmer of Shift Your Style in Andover.
Other “40 under 40” honorees with a Northern Essex connection include:
