Boston Globe Editorial Featuring President Glenn: Help more students complete financial aid forms
This weekend, the Boston Globe published an editorial featuring Northern Essex Community College President Lane Glenn. Glenn, along with MA State Representative Andy Vargas (D) 3rd Essex District, Femi Stoltz, the Massachusetts Policy Director at uAspire, and others are advocating to make completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) a requirement for high school graduation in the Commonwealth.
The editorial cites one study that shows Massachusetts high school graduates left $48 million in federal financial aid unused in 2022 because they did not apply for it.
“A lot of first-generation families don’t think they can afford [college]. When they complete the FAFSA, they discover there’s Pell Grants, institutional resources, private scholarships,” writes Glenn.
