NECC Music Professor Emeritus Plans Festival Honoring Robert Frost

Submitted by on April 17, 2025 – 10:24 am

An afternoon of music woven together with the poetry of Robert Frost, America’s most beloved poet, will be held on April 27 at the Lawrence Public Library. Frost grew up in Lawrence and was valedictorian of his class at Lawrence High School.

The event begins at 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Robert Frost Foundation and the Essex Chamber Music Players (ECMP). Performers will include The Diminished Prophets, the Essex Chamber Music Players, and Emmy Award-winning actor Gordon Clapp of NYPD Blue.

The Diminished Prophets will present Frost poems spoken in English and Spanish, accompanied by Spanish guitar. NECC Music Professor Emeritus Michael Finegold is the artistic director of ECMP. The group will perform three pieces inspired by Frost’s poems on seasons, interpretations of human longing, and the joys and vulnerabilities of life.

Act One from “Frost: This Verse Business” will be performed by Clapp. The script was taken from audio recordings of Frost during the last 25 years of his life and from letters and prose documents. The play is by A.M. Dolan and takes place on an imagined occasion in the Fall of 1962.

Admission is free and open to the public.  Children ages 8 to 14 are welcome with a parent or guardian. For more information, visit the ECMP website.
