Three Northern Essex Community College employees, Erin Colstad of Methuen, Margaret Lambert of Haverhill, and Domingo Torres of Lawrence recently received the Employee Recognition Award for the fourth quarter of 2018.

The Employee Recognition Award recognizes the many and varied contributions of the college’s nearly 700 employees.  Employees are selected each quarter based on recommendations form supervisors and co-workers.  Recipients receive a $150 certificate to the restaurant or mall of his or her choice.

Colstad, special programs coordinator in the patient simulation center, has worked at NECC for almost three years. Prior to working in this position, she was a laboratory technician in NECC’s Patient Simulation Center on the Lawrence campus. She holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Assisting from Zane State College. She was nominated by Mary Farrell, dean of health professions.

“Erin excels at scheduling and setting up health division labs, including the use of labs by Regis North programs, and the coordination effort with NECC programs,” wrote Farrell. “She conducts informative tours for internal and external groups, shining the spotlight on NECC’s state of the art patient simulation labs and resources.  She goes over and above her work responsibilities to provide service to the NECC community graciously and competently.”

Lambert, a technical assistant in the Academic Placement & Testing Center, has worked at Northern Essex for six years.  She is a 2010 graduate of NECC and holds an Associate of Science Degree in Human Services. 

She was nominated by Donna Felisberto, coordinator in the Academic Placement & Testing Center, who praised her work with students.“Peggy goes above and beyond to make sure the Center’s processes are efficient and effective. She does a great job of tracking students and working with other areas of the college to get students more information,” wrote Felisberto. “She works extremely well with students on the front line, who frequently send email notes thanking her for her assistance and her friendliness.”

Torres has worked in the facilities department at NECC for more than 20 years, currently as supervisor on the Lawrence campus, where he oversees the daily activities of the department.  A graduate of Martin Luther King High School in Patterson, NJ, he was nominated by Paul Miedzionoski, director of facilities.

Torres’ nomination was supported by Mary Murphy, a manager in the administration and finance office. “Domingo is the backbone of the Lawrence Campus, and day to day operations would not be possible without him,” Murphy wrote. “He is highly regarded among his coworkers in the facilities department, often dealing with situations on campus after hours and into the evening. He often acts as a translator for Spanish speaking students, helping them find their classes or answer questions. He regularly has ideas on facilities related matters that result in major cost savings for NECC, and has an innovative approach to tasks and strong problem solving skills.”
