Lance Hidy, Northern Essex Community College’s accessibility specialist and former art and design professor, will present two artist demonstrations titled “Poster Art with Lance Hidy,” at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) on Sunday, Nov. 11, from noon to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Both events, which are drop-in workshops, are free with museum admission. Northern Essex faculty, staff, and students, who have a valid NECC id, can receive free admission to the MFA, under a program funded by the Pozen Community College Access Program.

He will share his inspiration in creating memorable examples of this medium. These drop-in workshops, which are open to all ages, will include demonstrations by Hidy, as well as a hands-on table for sketching and lettering.

Hidy is best-known for his poster work, from hand-printed silk screens, to designs made with digital tools. Adobe commissioned him to adapt his poster lettering into the typeface Penumbra, a family of 16 fonts, and the U. S. Postal Service turned to Mr. Hidy to design three postage stamps. Mr. Hidy was chosen by Ansel Adams to design the last book of his career “Yosemite and the Range of Light,” and continues to design books for the Ansel Adams Trust.

After attending the demonstration, attendees are invited to visit the MFA exhibition, “The Art of Influence: Propaganda Postcards from the Era of World Wars.”
