Health care faculty member Nancy Julin and NECC President Lane Glenn attended the Chair Academy Annual conference where Julin received the Idahlynn Karre Exemplary Leadership Award.

Nancy Julin, Northern Essex Community College’s assistant dean of health professions and director of iHealth programs, received the The Idahlynn Karre Exemplary Leadership Award during the  28th Annual Chair Academy International Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Julin, of Leominster, who has worked at Northern Essex for 15 years, will retire in May.

“Nancy Julin was instrumental in the implementation of this unique, successful program,” wrote NECC President Lane Glenn, who nominated her for the award. “iHealth serves the needs of busy, working adults who need flexibility in pursuing a college credential to obtain a living wage or advancement in their careers in the health care field. This effort involved creating multiple new academic programs, all offered in hybrid (part online and part classroom) courses so students only had to come to campus one or two nights a week.”

In addition, Glenn noted that Julin also oversaw support services for these busy adults, often from underrepresented groups to assure they were successful. iHealth has served thousands of students and helped to fill critical needs in our regional health care system.

The prestigious award is given to an individual or a team that has developed a program to enhance the learning community, increased diverse offerings while meeting the needs of a changing college population, created an environment that empowers others or exhibited model loyalty, commitment, and integrity.

Glenn presented the award to Julin at the conference in late March.
