President Lane Glenn, Eileen Hayes-Johnson, Joshua Bordis, and Janice Rogers

Three Northern Essex Community College employees Janice Rogers of Lexington, Eileen Hayes-Johnson of Salisbury, and Joshua Bordis of Derry, NH, recently received the quarterly employee recognition award for the first quarter of 2012.

The Employee Recognition Award recognizes the many and varied contributions of the college’s nearly 700 employees. Employees are selected each quarter based on recommendations from supervisors and co-workers. Recipients receive a $150 certificate to the restaurant or mall of his or her choice.

Rogers, the assistant dean of academic preparation since 2008, came to Northern Essex nearly eight years ago as its English as a Second Language (ESL) coordinator. She also served as acting dean of the division of foundational studies and liberal arts & sciences as the college searched for a division dean. Several members of the faculty nominated her praising her as a leader who works hard to develop other leaders at the college.

“…she sees potential in her coworkers and helps them achieve their best performances,” they wrote. “She is also highly approachable. She works hard to help others address challenges or issues. Often, she is the voice of reason in the room, and her patient wisdom is greatly appreciated… She is seldom rattled by the incredible demands of her job. Overall, she is a wonderful leader and colleague.”

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Brown University and a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language and Spanish from the School for International Training in Vermont.
Bordis is the technical operations coordinator for NECC’s enrollment services. He came to Northern Essex in 2009 as a financial aid counselor.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Boston University.
He was nominated by the entire enrollment services team. They praised him for his “enthusiasm, great sense of humor, and ability to motivate”.

“Joshua is extremely efficient and performs above and beyond expectations. His commitment has had a very positive effect on his colleagues as the Team strives to meet goals and provide the best possible service for our students. Joshua is very professional and student oriented. He understands that our student population needs answers quickly and has never failed to respond to students, not only to answer direct questions and concerns that they may have, but to take the opportunity to educate students on the full financial aid process so that they can be best prepared while pursuing their education.”

Hayes-Johnson is a 13-year veteran of NECC where she works as an administrative assistant in the academic resource and tutoring center. She was nominated by several of her colleagues. One of whom lauded her for being reliable, helpful, and courteous. “She has a sense of teamwork and incredible work ethic, wrote,” wrote her co-worker.

Another wrote, “In her role as the budget analyst for the Academic Resource & Tutoring Center, Eileen Hayes-Johnson is organized, thorough, and unflappable. She instructs us all on the intricacies of grant management, providing data, analysis, and the bottom line.”

A third wrote, “Eileen is the go to person for all of us in all budget matters and performs her work with a high level of accuracy and integrity. She is thoughtful, well prepared and of consistently good humor…”

She is currently working toward her associate of arts degree in general studies.
