Alumnus and Student Join NECC Trustees
Ronald J. Guilmette of Salisbury and Dana Haggar of Haverhill were recently elected to the Northern Essex Community College Board of Trustees by alumni and students respectively.
Guilmette, a retired Lt. Col. in the Massachusetts State Police Department and the former chief of police at Merrimack College in North Andover, is a graduate of Northern Essex’s associate degree criminal justice program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from UMass Boston and a Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College.
He currently teaches criminal justice at UMass Lowell and Merrimack College, and is a member of the NECC Alumni Advisory Board.
Haggar is a student in the Deaf Studies: Sign Language Interpreter Program at Northern Essex and will graduate in 2013. She plans to transfer to Framingham State College and earn her bachelor’s degree after graduating from Northern Essex.
A Student Ambassador, she is a member of the NECC Student Leadership Development Program, Student Senate, and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
“It is exciting for us to have a prominent alumnus as well as a current student join the trustees,” says NECC President Lane Glenn. “Each will offer a unique perspective.”
The college’s Board of Trustees includes nine members who are appointed by the governor of the state to a maximum of two five-year terms as well as an alumni-elected member, who also serves a maximum of 10 years, and a student trustee who serves for two semesters.
