Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I fill out a CCOT form?

By completing this form, you are notifying the multidisciplinary CCOT team of your concern in an effort to keep our students and college community safe. The CCOT team will further look into each report to ensure safety, promote mental health and well-being, and address concerning behaviors. By sharing your concerns, we can ensure the student is receiving the resources and support they need.

Any immediate threats should be communicated directly to Public Safety at 978 556-3333 x3333 or by calling 911.

Are CCOT Reports Confidential?

CCOT reports are not anonymous, as we may need to follow up with the individual who submitted the report, or other staff already working with the student, for additional information.
However, we handle all reports with the utmost care and privacy, sharing information only with the appropriate individuals on a need-to-know basis to ensure the student receives the best possible support. Our goal is to assist students while respecting their privacy.

After I submit a report what happens? Timeline?

Once submitted, the report is forwarded to a member of the CCOT team.  The team member will review the concern and reach out to the student to offer support and resources to work towards resolution.  Typically, initial outreach to the student occurs within 2 business days.

What information can/will be shared with me after I submit a report?

The CCOT team strives to share as much information as possible with the reporting party, while also making an effort to maintain the privacy of the student.  Depending on the situation, we are limited in the information we can share with you.

If I have a student conduct or policy violation concern, what should I do?

If you have a concern regarding a potential policy violation you should submit a CCOT report.  The report will be reviewed and addressed through the Student Code of Conduct process by the Office of Community Standards. The Student Code of Conduct can be found in the Academic Catalog here: https://necc.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2024-2025-updated/catalog/college-policies/student-code-of-conduct-and-grievance-procedures/

What is a No Contact Order?

A No Contact Order between two or more students is an interim measure that may be issued for a wide range of reasons.  The No Contact Order mandates that the parties are not to communicate with each other directly or indirectly.  The parties are prohibited from contacting each other in person, by telephone, email, text message, other electronic means, or through a third party.   If the two parties are in the same class or student group, they are directed to sit on the opposite end of the room and avoid contact. If a staff member or professor requires them to interact, they may do so.  The students are advised that it may be best to share with the professor/staff that they have received a No Contact Order with the other student and request not to have to work directly with them.

What types of resources are offered to students during CCOT response?

The CCOT team works together to offer individualized support to each student.  If students need campus services such as counseling, we will connect them with NECC’s Counseling Services.  When reports that come in that include an academic concern the team will often connect students to Academic Advisors, Tutoring, and/or Coaching.  Students have also benefit from other campus and community recourses shared by the team,  listed here: https://www.necc.mass.edu/student-life/support-services/external-resources/

When NOT to submit a CCOT?

You should not submit a CCOT report if you are reporting imminent harm, violence or medical emergency.  Please contact NECC Public Safety 9(78-556-3333) to report these situations.

What is the difference between an Alert on Navigate v. a CCOT report?

An Alert on Navigate should be used when there is concern with the academic progress of a student; this could be affected by absences, lack of work, inaccessibility to course materials and resources, or poor grades. Each alert is assigned to a staff member who can provide outreach and support to the student and follows a case management approach.
A CCOT report should be submitted when someone has concerns about a student’s mental health, well-being, behavior, needs for resources, or impacts on the NECC community. The CCOT team will work together to approach these concerns with sensitivity.

Will this CCOT report go on the student’s record?

No, any concerns addressed by the CCOT team do not become part of a student’s academic record. Our goal is to provide support, resources, and guidance to help students navigate challenges and succeed at NECC. Any information shared with CCOT is handled with care and in accordance with privacy. CCOT does track the history of the outreach that occurs with a student, to be prepared in case a future concern comes up with the same student.
