COVID-19 Update: November 20, 2020
IMPORTANT: Remote Teaching and Campus Operations Announcement
Good Morning, NECC Faculty, Staff, and Students—
Because of the surge in COVID-19 cases in our region, we have decided to adjust our end-of-semester plans and make some scheduling changes.
Before making a decision, we carefully considered the current progression of the virus as well as how the 10% of our courses that are currently being offered on campus would be impacted by a brief transition to remote learning.
What we have decided is that the week after Thanksgiving, Nov. 30 through Dec. 5, will be a remote learning week for everyone. Courses that are scheduled to be on campus will not meet on campus that week.
As a reminder, the college will be closed for Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26, and there are no classes on Friday, Nov. 27. Saturday the 28th will also be a remote day for classes.
Those who are currently teaching and learning on campus will plan a return to campus on Monday, Dec. 7 and final exams for those classes will be held, Dec. 16 through 22, as planned.
We are not encouraging visits to campus the week after Thanksgiving unless absolutely necessary. All Student Affairs services, including Admission, Registration, and Testing, will be offered only remotely. Access to computers in the Library, will be available by appointment only and access will be limited during that week.
The campus will also be closed Dec. 25 through Jan. 1.
These recent decisions were made to protect the safety of our faculty, staff, and students. Our hope is that by being cautious now, we will prevent further outbreaks at the end of the semester.
I know how challenging this has been for everyone, and appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters.
Please plan to celebrate Thanksgiving safely, and, if you have questions or feedback, reach out to me.
Appreciatively,
Lane
