In-Person Visits

When out program first began all of our classes were in person, in the family home, for your convenience. This will always be an option! American Sign Language is a visual 3D language and being in the room together can really help people learn.

When you’re preparing for in person classes here are a few things to consider.

Where should the tutor park?

For the first class a tutor and up to 2 interpreters may need a space to park. Please communicate with the tutor and interpreters where the best place to park their respective cars will be and if they need a pass.

Are there any Allergens?

Pets a a beloved member of many families. Unfortunately some people are allergic to pet hair and dander. Similarly some people have allergies to smoke, mold, peanut oils, or certain plants and pollen. If you know there are potential allergens in your home that might be a problem please let us know that way we can avoid placing a tutor with an allergy in harms way. Similarly, if you or someone in your family has an allergy to perfumes or pet hair please make sure we know that way we can prepare anyone coming to your home.

Normal Mess? No Problem.

We’re all human, don’t feel as though your home needs to be spotless for the tutor. We just ask that your home be safe and that there be enough space made so that you can work comfortably together.

Cultural Practices

if there are particular cultural practices observed in your home such as removing your shoes please let us know. Our tutors wish to be respectful guests in your home!

Safety and Comfort

All of our tutors have had background checks. No one with a history of violence or sexual misconduct will be permitted to tutor families. Tutors also provide proof of immunization and a negative TB test. You can trust that your new baby won’t be exposed to dangerous preventable diseases. We have a zero tolerance policy towards discrimination or harassment of any kind. If you ever feel uncomfortable with your tutor’s conduct please contact us right away. If a resolution can’t be found we will assign you a different tutor. 

Please, No Gifts

Sometimes families wish to give their tutors food or gifts to say thank you for their hard work. Unfortunately we are all state employees and “Public employees may not accept gifts and gratuities valued at $50 or more.” Heartfelt notes are cherished just as much as gifts if not more so if you wish to express your thanks please consider a nice card instead.
